Encounter Marine Park

In 2012 South Australia announced the Encounter Marine Park, which covers waters south of Christies Beach and surrounding the Fleurieu Peninsula.

With its aim to protect and care for the local environment the Mid Coast Surfing Reserve and the Encounter Marine Park strongly complement one another.

Conserving the marine environment for the future is the chief aim of the marine park.

Surfers share their local waters with a huge variety of marine life and around 85% of all these plants, fish and other animals are unique to southern Australia.

By protecting these species and the habitats they live in, we can help protect the quality of the marine environment and the quality of the surfing experience for future generations of surfers.
